We hope you are all enjoying the summer season. As you continue to unwind and settle into the summer sun, we would like to provide you with some interesting insights to ponder during your spare time.
The tax season is now behind us and you may be one who either prepared your own tax return or one who employed an accountant. Whichever route you chose, it is helpful to be aware of the options available to minimize your taxes. Jamie Golombek, Managing Director of Tax and Estate Planning with CIBC Private Wealth Management, provides insight into the advantages of taking a closer look at your tax return in his article, Get a tax Post Mortem.
While educating yourself on potential tax savings, you may also be interested in learning more about the proposed changes to the Canada Pension Plan and how these might affect your retirement planning. If approved, these changes will begin to take effect in 2011, so take a look at the proposed CPP Changes to start getting acquainted.
You may have also noticed the increasing media coverage of Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). Although the popularity of these investments has grown significantly, it is important to be aware of the various types of ETFs and their associated levels of volatility. To err on the side of caution, get to know the riskier side of inverse ETFs in Scot Blythe’s article, Errant ETFs.
We hope we have left you with some interesting thoughts and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.
Have a wonderful summer!
Best regards,
